U.S. gas prices fall, expected to stay steady

CNN -- U.S. gasoline prices have decreased a little more than 7 cents per gallon in the past two weeks, and lower demand in September is expected to keep prices steady, according to a new nationwide survey.

The latest Lundberg Survey, conducted on August 27, found the average price of self-serve regular at $2.70 per gallon -- down 7.54 cents since the last survey, conducted two weeks before.

Survey publisher Trilby Lundberg said gas prices were catching up to a decrease in crude prices.

"Absent any upset in the price of crude, (gasoline) prices should see little change or even a small drop," Lundberg told CNN.

There is a plentiful supply of gas, and September marks the beginning of a traditional period of lower gas consumption that should keep prices steady,

Then why did they jump nearly 30-cents per gallon this morning in St. Louis Missouri?

Barely can stay at 2.87 here in So. (L.A. County) Calif. Just not fair. The employers are running for other states and the Crims who stay are wreaking havoc with the paroled convicts being relaesed in record #'s.

OK now let me see if I can get this - plentiful supply of gas - oil prices have been and still are falling - gas may drop a few pennies then level off, When does the retail price finally equal the percentage of drop in crude oil prices? It never seems to happen!

Here gas went UP by $0.10 cents on Friday in central Ky and have dropped on average $0.02 cents since. I can't believe gas prices remain high with summer driving season ending and the country still experiencing extremely high unemployment.

I will make a trip to northern Michigan in the next month. I hope the fuel stays low. I will be hauling with my van, not the most efficient means, but I need to get some stuff to Marquette. I still hope for 23 mpg with my Olds (obsolete) Silhouette.

Not around here. The dominant player in gas stations , Speedway, raises prices and most of the sheep follow.

Oil should stay below $60 a brl, for the near future. There is adequate profit @ $50--$60/brl and reasonable rates at that level.

Prices expected to be jacked up for Labor Day weekend as retail gas stations attempt to once again "rip off" the American consumer. Substitute your own word or phrase for"rip off". They have already started in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, jacking up their prices 20 cents in the past 24 hours for no apparent reason.

Please stop putting lowering price fuel , it feels like a slap in the face. Wait until a whole dollar is shaved off.

What color is CNN's crystal ball?

CNN has about as much ability to forecast gas prices as my cat. Prices will be whatever they'll be, and we will pay the piper.

ssect8: we are aware of speculation and there's not a damn thing we can do about it. Do you have a solution?

When will people wake up to the fact that oil prices are NOT determined by supply and demand but rather greed and speculation.

Crude should be $20 a barrel and gas at $1.50 a gal. We are getting screwed for the mess in the gulf.

Let's see what happens as these storms move up the east coast. But they are beginning to realize that we are not using as much fuel, and they have to find a way to rid of their inventory. Conservation keeps your money in your pocket.

if the stock market keeps dropping proving the economy is still going down then gas should keep dropping. Unfortunately in todays society that will also probably decrease the value of the American Dollar which will make the cost in US dollars increase. Can't win with their logic.
