Drought crop damage worsens, ethanol waiver urged

Reuters -- (Reuters) - The worst drought in more than 50 years has caused more damage than expected to corn and soybean crops, the government said on Friday, heightening calls for a suspension of ethanol quotas to head off another global food crisis.

Esp. not EtOH from corn and other FOOD products. This would be an ideal time to step back and rethink, alas, it's not going to happen - if for no other reason than it's a political year and election/electability is more important than solving real issues.

No Waiver issued! No taxpayer funded subsidies! What stinking global warming? Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

They also want an increase in the ethanol refineries because it's a lot cheaper to refine ethanol than crude BUT they can sell it in gas for the same price as gas, 15% of a gal of gas is ethanol their cost goes down considerably but profits skyrocket up. Just because ethanol production reduces food crops does not matter as long as profits go up.

All of which will only guarantee higher prices before we even see the shortage.
